Are HVAC Maintenance Plans Worth it?
People often ask us “are HVAC maintenance plans worth it?” Well, we say, yes they are! Some customers probably even think that when a technician offers them an HVAC maintenance plan, that they are just trying to squeeze more money out of them. This couldn’t be further from the truth! We care about our customers and want what is best for them. Even the U.S. Department of Energy says that “an air conditioner’s filters, coils, and fins require regular maintenance for the unit to function effectively and efficiently”.
Homeadvisor estimates the average AC repair cost in Panama City to be at about $294. They also claim that the typical range varies between $138 and $450. Wouldn’t it be great if these issues could be caught before they were a serious problem? With a scheduled plan, a lot of them can be preemptively caught. Reoccurring HVAC maintenance plans are one of the best ways to extend the lifespan of your HVAC equipment.
With Beahan’s Heat and Air, our customer care plans are oriented around three central focus points. Checking, cleaning, and preventing.
Checking the Current HVAC Unit Status
Any good inspection includes a multitude of checks. This service is no different. You can expect your motor amperage to be measured and verified that it falls within manufacturer’s tolerance levels. Additionally, the AC refrigerant will be gauged to ensure it is properly charged. Since it controls the whole HVAC system, the thermostat also gets checked. The temperature drop is measured across the evaporator coil to determine if adequate cooling is taking place. Finally, the blower, fan, and evaporator coil are visually inspected for damage or malfunction.
Cleaning up for Optimum Performance
After the entire unit is inspected, there are some areas that require periodic cleaning. First of all, your system’s drain line is cleared. Having a clear drain line prevents condensation from overflowing into the area that the air handler is installed. Experiencing a leak like that could damage drywall, paint, wallpaper, or other things that are susceptible to water damage. Next we wash off any washable filters or replace disposable filters with customer provided replacements. The final step in the cleaning stage is to hose off the condenser coil outside. Any dirt or plant buildup on the coils will degrade cooling capabilities.
Preventing Future AC Problems
Now that the AC unit has been inspected and cleaned properly, the technician will take a couple steps to prevent issues from arising. Placing algae tablets in the drain pan will prevent algae from clogging the drain line. Then all moving parts are lubricated as needed. These may sound like two very simple steps, but they are crucial to prevention.
All of these touch points combined help to identify problems before they become serious issues.
Our customer care plans don’t just help you to extend the life of your HVAC system. They give you access to other perks as well. First of all, you get priority status over non-plan customers. In the event that you do experience an outage, your time spent waiting in the heat will be limited. Plan members also experience discounted pricing for repair calls and replacement parts. Finally, if your Air conditioner breaks in the middle of the night, or on a weekend, there are no overtime charges! They will be charged the same rate as daytime calls. If you want more information about our customer care plans, or want to sign up, contact us immediately and we will get you set up!
